Reinaldo Gorno
Reinaldo Berto Gorno (born June 18, 1918 in Yapeyú , Corrientes , † April 10, 1994 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine long-distance runner .
Career
At the age of 22, he won the silver medal in the 10,000-meter run at the 1941 South American Championship . In 1945 he won the gold medal in cross country and again silver over 10,000 meters. At the South American Championship in 1952, he won the silver medal in the half marathon behind Delfo Cabrera , the Olympic champion in the 1948 marathon .
At the Summer Olympics in Helsinki in 1952 , he won the silver medal in the marathon in a time of 2: 25: 35.0 hours behind Emil Zátopek . In 1954 he won the Fukuoka Marathon .
He ran his personal best over the marathon distance in 1955 with 2:20:28 h.
After the career
After retiring from active sport, Reinaldo Gorno worked as a public employee in the Quilmes municipality . While working on the local sports field in 1994, he was seriously injured in an attack by a criminal who had intimidatingly fired a bullet that ricocheted off a door. Reinaldo Gorno died in April 1994 after five operations.
