Reiner Geye (born November 22, 1949 in Duisburg , † August 8, 2002 in Mainz ) was a German football player and official.

career

Geye began his career at TuS Duisburg 48/99 , which merged with Duisburg SpV in 1964 to form Eintracht Duisburg . In 1968 he moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf in the then second-class regional league. In 1971 he rose to the Bundesliga with Fortuna and contributed to it as a striker with 25 goals this season and two goals in the promotion round. After he had also developed into a goalscorer in the Bundesliga, he completed his first of a total of four international matches for the national soccer team on November 15, 1972 (one goal at the international match on September 4, 1974 in Switzerland). With Fortuna Düsseldorf he reached 3rd place in the final table twice by 1977 (1972/73 and 1973/74). After his contract was not extended, he moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern . There he shaped a successful phase of the club - especially under coach Karl-Heinz Feldkamp - in which the Palatinate from 1978 to 1983 (1982/83 with the coaches Kröner and Diehl ) each qualified for the UEFA Cup and partly on closer title races were involved. 1981 Geye was also with the FCK in the DFB Cup final. In the 1: 3 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt , he scored the goal for Kaiserslautern. In 1986 he ended his professional career.

After his career as a player, Geye stayed with his family in Kaiserslautern. In 1988 he became honorary vice-president of the FCK and was responsible for the club's sporting activities, in particular for transfers. In 1993 he took over the newly created position of manager. In these roles of Geye, FCK became German champions (1991) and DFB Cup winners (1990), but had to accept relegation from the Bundesliga for the first time in 1996, as a result of which Geye was dismissed.

Reiner Geye died on August 8, 2002 of severe liver disease.
