Professional focus

Reiner Ulmcke focused his work on strengthening Homburg as a business location, which had the highest job density in the Saarland and the Palatinate with well over 30,000 jobs and 46,000 inhabitants when Ulmcke left office. This was achieved in particular through the establishment of a third Bosch plant in Homburg (1980) and numerous small and medium-sized businesses. Other important concerns were Ulmcke's redesign of Homburg's city center (e.g. through pedestrian zones, squares, fountains, monuments and sculptures) and the renovation of the old town, the revitalization of Homburg as a shopping town, the identification of commercial and residential areas, the creation of the city park (from 1982), the offer of a high-quality cultural program, the support of sport and the promotion of historical awareness. There was also an even improvement in the infrastructure in all parts of the city.

The successful process to reduce the outlet center in Zweibrücken in 2002 was of supraregional importance .

Reiner Ulmcke was honorary president of the Saarland City and Municipal Council for three terms from 1984 and vice-president for the same period of time. From 1981 to 2002 he was chairman of the Roman Museum Homburg-Schwarzenacker Foundation. The Roman Museum in Schwarzenacker was significantly expanded during this time under the direction of Alfons Kolling . Ulmcke is a member of the supervisory board of the soccer club FC 08 Homburg and second chairman of the Paul Fritsche Foundation Scientific Forum and the Friends of the University Hospital Homburg eV
