Reinhard Breit (born July 6, 1936 in Munich ) is a German dermatologist and university professor.

Life

After studying medicine in Munich, Vienna and Kiel , Breit received his doctorate in 1963 with a thesis on bilateral hydronephrosis in childhood . He then turned to the specialist field of dermatology and completed further training as a dermatologist at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich with Otto Braun-Falco , Theodor Nasemann and Hans-Jürgen Bandmann. From 1965 to 1967 he was with Albert Kligman in Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania , USA , for a research stay. In 1985 he completed his habilitation on the subject of reddening and tanning due to UV-A: spectral remission behavior and colorimetric analysis of human skin reactions under UV radiation systems .

From 1985 to 2001 Reinhard Breit was chief physician at the Clinic for Dermatology, Allergology and Environmental Medicine at the Schwabing Clinic in Munich . He is a professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and has been working as an expert for professional dermatology after his retirement.

Breit was active in the Bavarian State Medical Association as chairman of the finance committee and member of other committees.

Reinhard Breit is the grandson of the theologian Thomas Breit . He is married and lives in Pullach .

Scientific work

His research and work focuses include occupational dermatology, contact dermatitis , AIDS , allergology , UV therapy, and special dermatoses. Breit is co-developer of light therapy for the treatment of psoriasis .

He is an active member and was a long-term director of the German Dermatological Society . As a founding member and board member of the Southeast German Dermatological Society, he advocated the merger of previously separate scientific associations early on after reunification. He was a scientific adviser to the journal Der Deutsche Dermatologe and was responsible for the DDG aktuell section in the current journal of the German Dermatological Society for a long time .
