Reinhard Alfred Buchhorn (* 14. November 1946 in Gedhus , Denmark ) is a German politician of the CDU . From 2009 to 2015 he was Lord Mayor of Leverkusen .

Life

Reinhard Buchhorn moved to Bremen in 1949 , where he completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker after graduating from school. After that he was employed by the German Armed Forces and obtained his secondary school diploma on a second educational path. From 1968 to 1979 Buchhorn enlisted as a soldier in the German Federal Armed Forces. In the following years he did an apprenticeship as an office clerk and became a qualified administrator . From 2004 to 2009 he was Managing Director of the Leverkusen Working Group. From 2006 to 2009 he was chairman of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) in the Leverkusen district of Schlebusch . From 2007 to 2009 he was Deputy Chairman of the Leverkusen CDU. Buchhorn has been deputy chairman of the CDU district association Leverkusen since November 2007. He has been the Lord Mayor of Leverkusen since 2009. In Leverkusen, which was previously ruled by the SPD, he was just elected as a joint candidate by the CDU and FDP for six years with 39.9 percent. In 2015 he ran for re-election. In the election on September 13, 2015, however, he lost 29.8% of the vote to the SPD candidate Uwe Richrath , who was able to unite 51.2%.

Buchhorn has been an advisory board member of the Leverkusen district association of the Europa-Union Germany since 2010 .

In his second marriage he has three children.
