Reinhard Marxkors

Reinhard Marxkors (born February 28, 1932 in Hövelhof ) is a German dentist , materials scientist and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school, which he only acquired in 1953 due to the turmoil of the war, Marxkors studied dentistry in Münster . After only seven semesters, he completed this course in autumn 1956; He received his doctorate in the summer of 1957.

After internships at the Dental Institute of the University of Zurich , he completed his habilitation in the summer semester of 1964 on the subject of "Electrochemical processes in metallic foreign substances in the oral cavity". In 1969 he was appointed adjunct professor, in 1971 he was appointed full professor and head of the then department for dental prosthetics and director of the clinic for dentistry, oral and maxillofacial medicine at the University of Münster .

During this time he founded an interdisciplinary research group on the subject of prosthesis intolerance. The research center for psychopathology and psychosomatics in dentistry emerged from the project . Aware of the importance of materials science for dental prosthetics, he successfully expanded this subject, as a result of which the first chair for dental materials science in the Federal Republic of Germany was established in Münster and filled with a natural scientist. Marxkors also did pioneering work in the field of maxillary facial prosthetics and dysgnathy treatment . Other focal points were the treatment of myoarthropathies and gerontostomatology . The topicality and international awareness of Marxkor's work is particularly evident in the fact that the Department of Dental Prosthetics was chosen by numerous foreign scholarship holders for further training. Marxkors was dean of the medical faculty in 1973/74 and prorector of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in 1982/84 . From 1980 to 1996 he was the first chairman of the Westphalian Society for Dental, Oral and Kieferheilkunde e. V. Scientific productivity is expressed in over 1000 lectures and courses as well as in over 300 publications, some of which have been translated into several languages. During Marxkor's active time, eight habilitation theses were successfully completed, and he also supervised 130 doctoral students .
