In the A-youth, Pfeiffer played with the TuS Altrip for the German soccer championship 1969/70 . Under coach Hermann Jöckel he led his team as captain to the final. At the side of the later national player Manfred Kaltz , the team around Pfeiffer had to admit defeat 2: 3 after a 2-0 lead in Bochum against FC Hertha 03 Zehlendorf , they became runner-up. The Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 became aware of him through his performances in youth and signed him for the 1970/71 season . The young striker was a substitute for coach Slobodan Čendić's team , who helped him make his debut in professional football. On the 33rd matchday he changed him to the second half for Johann Pirkner . The debut was over after just 28 minutes of play and Pfeiffer was replaced. Manfred Pohlschmidt came on for him and the game against 1. FC Köln ended 2-2. Pfeiffer dissolved his contract with the miners after a year and joined the Karlsruher SC . He played a regional league season, which he finished with the KSC in fifth. This ended Pfeiffer's football career, a knee injury forced him to do so. Pfeiffer made his debut at Karlsruher SC under coach Heinz Baas on the second round match day, August 21, 1971, in a 1-0 home win against Darmstadt 98 in the Regionalliga Süd. He came on in the 83rd minute for Gerd Becker . The man from Altrip made his eighth and last appearance on matchday 29, March 18, 1972, in a 6-1 home win against Opel Rüsselsheim. Here he came on in the 46th minute for Jürgen Weidlandt .
