Münzesheim (noble family)

The barons of Münzesheim were an illegitimate sideline of the House of Baden . Margrave Friedrich VI. von Baden-Durlach had, after the death of his wife, Christine Magdalena Count Palatine near Rhine zu Kleeburg (1616–1662), an illegitimate relationship with Johanna Bayer von Sendau (1636–1699), whose joint descendants were appointed barons of Münzesheim in 1680 and with the village Münzesheim were enfeoffed. This sideline died out in the male line in 1856.

history

The place Münzesheim belonged to the Counts of Eberstein before 1236 and came after the death of Hugo von Eberstein to Zweibrücken, who sold it to Margrave Rudolf von Baden in 1283 . A tungsten from Münzesheim was proven as early as 1109. This local nobility died out in 1326 and Baden gave the fief to the court warden of Kirchheim .

When Hans Philipp Hofwart von Kirchheim, the last of his tribe, died in 1675, the fief first came to Ursula Katharina von Waldhof zu Merchingen. In 1680, however, it was passed to the two illegitimate sons of Margrave Friedrich VI. transferred from Baden, who were raised to the baron status and named after the place.

Johanna Bayer von Sendau was placed under house arrest by her stepson Margrave Friedrich Magnus in the stronghold near Emmendingen around 1680 . She had after the death of Margrave Friedrich VI. initially stayed in Durlach, where she made enemies through her behavior and her debt. At the end of 1681 she was brought to Remchingen . While her sons were allowed to call themselves barons von Münzesheim, she was denied the title of baroness or baroness.

In 1761 Friedrich August von Münzesheim sold the castle and village of Münzesheim to Margrave Karl Friedrich von Baden-Durlach . Tax sovereignty remained with the knightly canton of Kraichgau . In 1763 the dilapidated moated castle in Münzesheim was demolished.

The family's coat of arms is quartered, fields 1 and 4: two laurel branches that are bent inward and bent at the bottom with their stems and do not touch each other, fields 2 and 3: two diagonally crossed lance flags. The colors are not used.
