history

Martinskirche

Münzesheim was first mentioned as Muncinesheim in the Lorsch Codex in 828 on the occasion of a donation , from 1109 to 1282 the place was ruled by a local nobility. 1326 Münzesheim came to Baden , but he was the Hofwart of Kirchheim verlehnt . The feudal sovereignty probably comes from the Counts of Eberstein and thus from the Kraichgau knights. The local rulers introduced the Lutheran Reformation in 1530 . After the fief fell back in 1675, Margrave Friedrich von Baden gave the place to his two illegitimate sons, who called themselves Barons von Münzesheim . Friedrich August von Münzesheim sold the local rule back to the feudal lord in 1761, but Baden had to recognize the tax sovereignty of the Kraichgau knighthood until 1805. From 1805 to 1807 Münzesheim belonged to the district office of Bretten , then to the Oberamt Gochsheim , in 1813 finally temporarily to the city office and first rural office in Bruchsal and from December 1813 back to the district office of Bretten. In 1936 Münzesheim came to the Bruchsal district office .

On September 1, 1971, Münzesheim united with the cities of Gochsheim and Unteröwisheim as well as with the communities of Bahnbrücken, Landshausen, Menzingen, Neuenbürg, Oberacker and Oberöwisheim to form the new city of Kraichtal.

coat of arms

The former coat of arms of Münzesheim shows a red heart in gold, topped with a silver ring.

The Protestant St. Martins Church was already under the patronage of the Counts of Eberstein in the 13th century; the current church was rebuilt in 1856. The Catholic Church of St. Andrew was built in 1963/65. The old smithy is one of the historical buildings in the village .

The Asian garden is located right next to the Münzesheim Therapy Center and houses detailed replicas of Japanese and Asian art on 1.5 hectares. From outside sources it is called "one of the most beautiful Asian gardens in Europe". In addition to the Asian garden, the gatekeeper house , the historically oldest building mentioned in Münzesheim, opens on Sundays and public holidays for visitors with various special exhibitions.
