The Hofwart family was a Franconian - Swabian noble family also known with the addition of Kirchheim to Aries. It was organized in the Franconian knight canton of Odenwald .

history

The Hofwart had family ties with the Echter von Mespelbrunn : Hamann II (approx. 1408–1480) was married to Lisa Hofwart von Kirchheim. Also in the ancestral sample of Gertraud Echter von Mespelbrunn, nee von Adelsheim (1525–1583, wife of Peter III. Echter and mother of Julius Echter , Prince-Bishop of Würzburg , 1545–1617), as shown on the large Echter epitaph in the Hessenthal pilgrimage church , 63875 Mespelbrunncan be seen, the coat of arms of the court warden appears on the father's side at the bottom left, with "Hofwart" written on the epitaph (blue cross on a gold background). Furthermore, in the ancestral line of Philipp Anton von Ehrenberg (Prince-Bishop of Würzburg, 1583–1631), nephew of Prince-Bishop Julius Echter and son of his sister Margarethe (1549–1611), married to Hans Heinrich sen. von Ehrenberg (1547–1584), a great-great-grandmother on the paternal side named Elisabeth Hofwart von Kirchheim, married. Horneck from Hornberg.

coat of arms

There are three coats of arms of the court warden, which differ in their tincture . The coat of arms from Scheibler's book of arms ( Franconia ) shows a black shield with a gold anchor cross and a black pointed hat, on which a red and silver ball. The ceilings are red and gold.

The other two representations come from Siebmacher's book of arms. At Fränkische , a blue paw cross is shown in a gold shield. On the helmet with the blue and gold blankets there is a blue pointed hat with a green plume on top. In "Swabian" it shows a black shield with a golden cross. On the helmet with the black and gold blankets is a red pointed hat, topped with the green plume.

(Note: The Rhine Dalberg led a black anchor cross on a gold background, the Frankish Modschilder to Gera a gold on blue.)
