The epitaph for Peter III. Echter and Gertraud von Adolzheim is located in the pilgrimage church of Hessenthal , a district of the Mespelbrunn community in the Lower Franconian district of Aschaffenburg ( Bavaria ).

The epitaph , which was commissioned by his son Dietrich (1554–1601) in 1582, is located in the late Gothic chapel and can only be reached via the new building of the pilgrimage church. The epitaph in the late renaissance style was created by Erhard Barg from Schwäbisch Hall . With a height of 8.28 meters, it extends to the vault .

Christ is depicted on the cross, underneath as fully plastic figures kneeling on the left and right outside

  • Valentin (1550–1624), councilor and bailiff for Waldaschach, Volkach and Kitzingen
  • Dietrich (1554–1601), bailiff at Rothenfels
  • Kordula (1559–1599), married to Stephan Zobel von Giebelstadt
  • Magdalena (1556–1594), married to Fuchs von Dornheim zu Wiesentheid and Mainsondheim, mother of the Bamberg prince-bishop Johann Georg II. Fuchs von Dornheim von Dornheim
  • Margaretha (1549–1611), married to Hans Heinrich zu Ehrenberg, mother of the Würzburg Prince-Bishop Philipp Adolf von Ehrenberg
  • Maria (1552–1553), shown smaller, wears a funeral wreath on her head because she died early.

The family coats of arms are attached to the pilasters symmetrically arranged to the left and right of the sculptural group of sculptures . Below are the apostles Peter (left) and Paul (right). Above the epitaph is a medallion with a resurrection scene , surrounded by the three virtues of faith, love and hope.
