Neuenbürg is a district of Kraichtal in the Karlsruhe district in north-western Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Neuenbürg lies in the hilly landscape of the Kraichgau . The municipal area is 256 ha.

history

Mentioned for the first time in 1255 as novum castrum Owensheim , it was a village following the new castle of the Counts of Eberstein in the district of Oberöwisheim . With the castle (which no longer exists today), the village was pledged to the Lords of Remchingen in 1331 and later converted into a fiefdom . The local rule introduced the Lutheran Reformation . After the Lords of Remchingen died out, the Bishop of Speyer took the place to himself in 1661, although Württemberg made claims to Neuenbürg as an accessory from Gochsheim. Thus Neuenbürg was re-Catholicized. In 1803 Neuenbürg came to Baden and in 1807 briefly belonged to the Gochsheim Office , from 1807 to 1809 to the Oberamt Bruchsal, then again to Gochsheim and from 1810 to 1819 to the second Landamt Bruchsal. From 1819 Neuenbürg belonged to the Oberamt or District Office Bruchsal .

In April 1945 the French occupation forces vacated the site for the accommodation of concentration camp prisoners from the liberated Vaihingen concentration camp . Jewish prisoners who died here are buried in the resulting Jewish cemetery .

On September 1, 1971, Neuenbürg united with the cities of Gochsheim and Unteröwisheim as well as with the communities of Bahnbrücken, Landshausen, Menzingen, Münzesheim, Oberacker and Oberöwisheim to form the new city of Kraichtal.

In 2005 Neuenbürg had 523 inhabitants.

Neuenbürg

coat of arms

The former coat of arms of Neuenbürg shows two black lions, facing each other, in silver on a blue ground, holding a blue bunch of grapes with a green stem.

Attractions

The Catholic Church of St. Lukas was originally built as the Marienkapelle in Neuenbürg Castle and was elevated to a parish church in 1468 . The bell tower of the church is the former tower of the castle, of which nothing else has been preserved. The church was rebuilt to its present form in 1892. The former town hall is located by the church, and a village square with a village fountain was laid out there in 1999.
