Hermann Jöckel (born October 8, 1920 in Schierstein , † June 2, 1991 in Mannheim ) was a German football player.

Player career

Beginning

Hermann Jöckel became a member of FSV Schierstein 08 in December 1931 and began playing football as a goalkeeper for this club in 1932 . In 1936 his parents moved to Frankfurt am Main . He therefore became a member of Eintracht Frankfurt and was in various youth teams ( B-Jugend , A-Jugend ) from August 1, 1936 to March 31, 1937 in goal with this club . After moving again, he guarded the goal of FC Phönix-Alemannia Karlsruhe from April 1, 1937 , first in the A-youth, then also in the first team.

His football career was interrupted by being drafted into the Wehrmacht and participating in the war, which ended when the British were captured . On December 6, 1946, he returned to Schierstein from English captivity from Canada .

Continuation and conclusion

After a short stay in Schierstein, Hermann Jöckel was hired as a goalkeeper from VfR Mannheim , who played in the newly founded Oberliga Süd in 1945 . His first game for this club he completed on January 12, 1947 in the local encounter VfL Neckarau against VfR Mannheim, which VfR won 2-1. In the 1946/47 season he completed a total of 20 point games for VfR Mannheim. In the 1947/48 season he was missing only one game day, namely November 23, 1947. From the next game day on, he then completed all the point games for VfR Mannheim until November 16, 1952, namely 159 games in a row.

The 1948/49 season was the highlight of his football career. After taking second place with VfR Mannheim this season in the Oberliga Süd behind Offenbacher Kickers , he surprised all football fans with his club in the final round of the German championship. His club beat Hamburger SV with 5: 0 goals in the preliminary round and Offenbacher Kickers with 2: 1 goals in the semifinals and stood in the final, in which he and Hermann Jöckel in goal Borussia Dortmund in a rousing game with 3: 2 defeated and became German champion.

The 1949/50 season was very successful for VfR Mannheim and therefore also for him. The club took fourth place in the Oberliga Süd and had thus qualified for participation in the preliminary round of the championship. There it came to the new edition of the final of the 1948/49 season VfR Mannheim against Borussia Dortmund, which was won by VfR Mannheim with 3-1 goals. In the second round, however, they lost against Prussia Dellbrück with 1: 2 goals and were eliminated before reaching the semi-finals.

Hermann Jöckel then played for VfR Mannheim until the 1954/55 season. The successes of the period 1948 to 1950 could no longer be achieved. In total, he completed 241 point games for this club.

In the 1955/56 season he let his playing career at ASV Landau end.

Coaching career

Hermann Jöckel had already trained as a coach during his time as an active player. After his active time, he took over the coaching position at the following clubs: ASV Landau, VfR Bürstadt , ASV Feudenheim , SpVgg Amicitia Viernheim , TuS Altrip and in the 1974/75 season also at VfR Mannheim , where he was also chairman of the game committee. With the youth team of TuS Altrip, he even reached the final of the German A-Youth Championship in 1970 .

In the last years of his life he played tennis as a pastime.
