Reinhard Uhlig

Reinhard Uhlig (born October 28, 1935 in Lugau ; † August 6, 2007 in Berlin ) was a German military medic and head of the prison hospital of the GDR State Security . He was medical director of the People's Police Hospital (VP) in East Berlin.

Life

The son of a locksmith became a member of the SED in 1952 . In 1955 he graduated from high school and became a member of the KVP . He studied military medicine at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald .

In 1961 he was employed by the Ministry for State Security (MfS), began his service in the detention hospital of the MfS and became its head in 1962. He was released from the management of the hospital in 1964 because of a specialist training. He then worked at the Berlin-Buch Clinic until 1969. Then he was senior physician and internist in the Central Medical Service (ZMD) of the MfS. In 1973 he switched back to the People's Police, became chief physician and in 1975 as Colonel VP Medical Director of the People's Police Hospital in Berlin. At the same time he was an officer on special operations (OibE) of the MfS from 1975 to 1989 . On June 28, 1985 he was appointed major general by Erich Honecker on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the German People's Police . In 1990 he was released from service.

Uhlig died after a long illness at the age of 71 and was buried in the Grünau forest cemetery.
