Walter Krause (art historian)

Walter Krause (* 1943 in Vienna ) is an Austrian art historian and university professor.

Life

Krause received his doctorate in 1972 at the University of Vienna Dr. phil. During his studies he already worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Art History, from 1972 as an assistant to Professor Renate Wagner-Rieger . In connection with the increasing tasks in the university business, he ended his many years of activity as a lecturer for youth literature in 1974. In addition to various technical and administrative functions (slide collection, faculty board, faculty commissions, senate commissions, AKH advisory board), Krause took over the scientific supervision of the collections in Hardegg Castle , and later also the collections of the Hardegg municipality, from 1978 .

Krause taught at the "Summer School of the University of Vienna" from 1980–89 and was appointed head of the research company "Wiener Ringstrasse" in 1980, succeeding Renate Wagner-Rieger, who died early. In 1981 he completed his habilitation in the subject of Middle and Modern Art History with a thesis on the sculpture of Vienna's Ringstrasse, and in 1993 he was appointed Tit.Ao Professor. 1997 to Ao. Professor. In addition to his teaching activities in Vienna, Krause also taught at the University of Graz , the Eötvös Lorand University and the Central European University in Budapest. Since 1988 he has been a member of the Monument Advisory Board at the Austrian Federal Monuments Office. Even after his retirement in 2009, Krause is still active in teaching and research.
