Reinhold Schildbach
Reinhold Schildbach (born August 10, 1933 in Dermbach / Rhön; † October 14, 2019 in Berlin ) was a German agricultural and brewing scientist, as well as a university professor at the TU Berlin .
Life
After completing an agricultural education, Schildbach studied agricultural sciences at the University of Giessen with a degree in agriculture. In 1966 he received his doctorate from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Giessen with a study on sugar beet.
On January 1, 1969, he began research on brewing barley at the Research and Training Institute for Brewery (VLB), where he took over the management of the raw materials department. In 1971 he initiated the 1st International Brewing Barley Seminar. In 1972 Schildbach completed his habilitation and was appointed professor for vegetable raw materials in food and beverage technology by the TU Berlin . In the 1970s he expanded his field of work to include hop research .
In 1976 he succeeded H. Schilfarth as the scientific director of the VLB and was co-managing director until a structural reform of the institution in 1981. In 1980 he was appointed chairman of the Barley Committee of the European Brewery Convention (EBC).
After Schildbach's retirement in 1999, Frank Rath took over the management of the VLB Research Institute for Raw Materials in 1999 . Schildbach was married and has two sons: Dipl.Ing Jörg Schildbach and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Schildbach. At the time of his death he had five grandchildren.
