Reinhold Schmaltz
Reinhold Schmaltz (born August 26, 1860 in Schönbrunn, Silesia, † August 4, 1945 in Altlandsberg ) was a German veterinarian and university professor.
Life
Initially a forest enthusiast at the Eberswalde Forest Academy , Reinhold Schmaltz studied from 1882 at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover and became a member of the Corps Normannia Hanover . In 1884 he received his license to practice medicine and initially worked as a practical veterinarian in Eldagsen . In 1886 he was at the University of Giessen Dr. med. vet. PhD. He then went to the University of Veterinary Medicine Berlin (TiHo) as a lecturer , where he was appointed professor of anatomy in 1891/92. In 1907 he was rector of the university. In 1910 he was appointed full professor of anatomy and histology. He was chairman of the Reitenden Feldjäger-Korps of the forest academy Eberswalde and Hannoversch-Münden. He took part in the First World War as a major and battalion commander in the 201 Infantry Regiment.
Schmaltz researched in particular the anatomy of the horse and was involved in political standing and for the elevation of veterinary medicine to an independent faculty at the University of Berlin , into which the TiHo was incorporated in 1934. In 1888 he was the founder of the Berliner Tierärztliche Wochenschrift.
Schmaltz was married to Hedwig Rabe, the daughter of the professor of veterinary medicine Christian Friedrich Rabe . Schmaltz is buried in the Altlandsberg municipal cemetery .
