Gerhard J. Rekel

Gerhard Johannes Rekel (mostly Gerhard J. Rekel or Gerhard Rekel ; * 1965 in Graz ) is an Austrian science journalist , screenwriter and novelist .

life and work

Gerhard Rekel studied screenwriting and directing at the Vienna Film Academy . His graduation comedy Trauma was invited to the Venice Biennale as part of the Finestra sulla imagini series and received, among other awards, a British Academy of Film and Television Arts nomination.

He then went on study trips to India , China and South America . Since 1997 he has lived in Vienna and Berlin . He has written radio plays and some theater pieces, of which Machiavelli's masseuse was chosen by the jury of the Thalia Theater-Hamburg as the best four young talent in 2004. Rekel wrote scripts for numerous documentaries, some of which have received international awards. a. he received the "Best Screenplay Award" at the 8th European Archeological Film Festival in Athens and the "Young Audience Award" in Besançon. He wrote the scripts for television plays and the television series TATORT. Several novels have appeared: On his thriller The Scent of Coffee , which has been translated into Turkish and Korean, Wiener Standard said: "With his intelligent novel, Rekel could succeed in establishing a new literary genre - the food thriller." Rekel has been teaching as a guest lecturer at Danube University Krems , Film Department, Postgraduate , MA since 2006 .

He is married and has two sons.
