Rem Iwanowitsch Vjachirev ( Russian Рем Иванович Вяхирев , scientific transliteration Rėm Ivanovič Vjachirev ; born August 23, 1934 in Bolschaja Tschernigowka , Kuibyshev Oblast (today Oblast Samara ), was a Russian industrial district of Volga , Soviet Union February 2013 ; † was a Russian industrial district of Volga , Soviet Union . From 1992 to May 2001 he was CEO of the Russian energy company Gazprom .

His first name Rem is an acronym from the first letters of Revolution, Engels and Marx.

Career

Vyachirew graduated from the Kuibyshev Industrial College in 1956 and then worked on various oil fields in the Kuibyshev Oblast. In the 1970s he was the chairman of a state gas production company . From 1983 to 1985 he was deputy to the Soviet minister for natural gas production, since 1986 his first deputy. In 1989 he moved to Gazprom and initially became Deputy Chairman of the Management Board, and from 1992 he took over the position of Chairman of the Management Board.

Vyachirev is thus one of the CPSU cadres known as the “ Red Bosses ”, who seamlessly assumed a leading position in former state-owned companies after the collapse of the Soviet Union .

On May 30, 2001, Vyachirev was officially dismissed as chairman for health reasons. His successor was Alexei Miller .
