Rembt Tobias Hugo Pieter Liebrecht Alexander van Boneval Faure (born January 25, 1826 in Groningen , † August 19, 1909 in Putten ) who is a Dutch jurist and politician.

Life

Faure was the son of the financial advisor Willem Jan van Boneval Faure (born April 6, 1796 in Termunten; † December 3, 1870 in Groningen) and his wife Wilhelmina Jacoba Elisabeth Wichers (born April 5, 1804 in Amsterdam; † June 11, 1854 in Groningen). After attending the grammar school in his hometown, he enrolled at the University of Groningen on February 24, 1841 . On April 15, 1848 he received his doctorate with the thesis Specimen inaugurale continens Observationum ad tit. VII libri IV Codicis Civilis Capita IV for Doctor of Law. He then worked as a lawyer in Groningen, was adjunct of the committee of the Ministry of Finance in 1850, member of the committee in 1852 and on February 28, 1853 trainee lawyer in the Ministry of Finance.

On December 31, 1855, he was appointed associate professor of law by royal resolution, with a teaching position for civil law, commercial law and the code of civil procedure. He began this task on April 17, 1856 with the speech De vero codicum legum civilium pretio . On September 29, 1857, he was appointed full professor. On December 31, 1858 he was appointed professor of law at the University of Leiden , with a teaching position for civil law, commercial law and the code of civil procedure at the University of Leiden. He took on this task on June 4, 1859 with the inaugural speech De usu regulae Celsi scire leges etc. in interpretandis legum imprimis civilium codicibus . In that capacity he also participated in the organizational tasks of the university and was rector of the alma mater in 1865/66 . He set this task with the speech de iis quae academiae Lugduno-Bat. anno 1865-66 acciderunt settled down. From 1867 to 1870 he was a member of the State Commission for the Review of Legislation for the Transfer of Property, Their Mortgages and Notaries Public.

From 1880 to 1886 member of the state commission for the revision of the civil code of the Netherlands. On May 2, 1868 he became a member of the Dutch Academy of Sciences and also Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion . In 1892 he asked to be released from his professorship, after which he was retired by royal resolution on July 20, 1892 and retired on September 20, 1892. From July 5, 1894 to July 23, 1894 he was a member of the First Chamber of the States General . From 1894 he was also chairman of the Board of Appeal for property and personal taxes, editor of the journal New Contributions for Law and Legislation (Dutch: Nieuwe Bijdragen voor Rechtsgeleerdheid en Wetgeving ) and in 1898 chairman of the Johan Rudolf Thorbecke Foundation. In 1904 he appeared as an opponent of Abraham Kuyper's higher education law .

Faure married on April 26, 1854 in Groningen with Johanna Justina van Hall (born April 29, 1827 in Groningen, † March 18, 1889 in Leiden), daughter of the Groningen professor Herman Christiaan van Hall (1801-1874).
