René Gerth (born June 22, 1972 ) is a former German biathlete .

René Gerth had his first major international success as third in the overall ranking of the 1991 European Cup . In the 2000 season in Zakopane , he entered the European Championships for the first time, but could not convince with a 34th place in the sprint and 38th in the pursuit. In the following season he won the sprint race in Ridnaun in the European Cup ahead of Michael Greis and Andreas Stitzl . He was then at the season opener of the World Cup 2001 in Hochfilzen first time in the World Cup used and was 61st in the sprint. This was his only World Cup start, after that he only competed in races at European level, for example at the European Championships in 2002 in Kontiolahti , Finland , where he was 27th in the individual race. After this season, Gerth stopped playing internationally.

Gerth now lives in Dippoldiswalde and works as a ski instructor (Nordic) in the ski school of the former overall World Cup winner André Sehmisch .
