René Gilsi (born May 31, 1905 in St. Gallen ; † January 20, 2002 ibid) was a Swiss graphic artist , painter and caricaturist .

René Gilsi was the son of the painter and etcher Fritz Gilsi (1878–1961). During his school days in St. Gallen he attended a grammar school. Even then he showed great aversion to mathematics and languages. Rather, he was already interested in drawing in his childhood, and so after graduating he did an apprenticeship as a flat painter. When he was twenty, he went to Paris for a year . He then worked as a draftsman of political caricatures for the Swiss satirical magazine Nebelspalter .

Gilsi spent a long time in Vienna and worked as a graphic artist and caricaturist in Zurich and St. Gallen. Soon he also began to write texts and verses for his own drawings. For example, his book Onkel Ferdinand and the Pedagogy appeared in 1950 and Sometimes in 1964 . In his last years he turned to painting and created numerous artistic works.
