René Gross (born May 1, 1964 in Berlin ; † November 21, 1986 there ) was a victim of the Berlin Wall .

Gross grew up in the GDR and lived in the eastern part of Berlin . When he was 22 years old, he decided to try to escape with Manfred Mäder . On November 21, 1986, they drove together in an IFA W50 truck to the border between Treptow and Neukölln . At the Karpfenteichstrasse they broke through the hinterland wall and the signal fence. Members of the GDR border troops opened fire on the truck, which remained standing on the base of border wall 75 parallel to the course of the wall. René Gross was shot in the head and died immediately. His companion was hit in the thigh and also bled to death.

He was one of 13 people who died while fleeing the GDR and for whose death Erich Honecker was indicted in the Berlin Regional Court in 1992 . The shooter was sentenced in 2004 in a wall shooter trial to a prison sentence of 10 months on probation.
