Renata Tarragó i Fàbregas

Renata Tarragó i Fàbregas (born October 23, 1927 in Barcelona , † August 2, 2005 in Mataró ) was a Catalan classical guitarist and music teacher. She was the daughter of the guitarist Gracià Tarragó .

life and work

Renata Tarragó studied guitar at the Conservatori del Liceu and at the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona with her father, among others.

She made her first public appearance at the age of 14. She was a member of the Agrupació de Música de Cambra Ibèrica and performed with this group early on throughout Spain. She also made appearances in concerts and radio broadcasts early on. The task that had set itself was to regain the repertoire that had been written for the viola de mà and the baroque guitar and had been forgotten. She accompanied Victòria dels Àngels and Conxita Badia , with whom she recorded Spanish Renaissance music . She also worked with the group Ars Musicae de Barcelona . Her repertoire included works by Luis Milán , Alonso Mudarra and Luis de Narváez to works by Fernando Sor and Federico Moreno Torroba . She also recorded the Concierto de Castilla by Torroba and several works by her father Gracià Tarragó on phonograms. In 1948 she took part in the world premiere of Manuel de Falla's work La vida breve at a BBC concert in London. With her father she performed Catalan and Spanish guitar repertoire on concert tours throughout Europe.

From 1944 she worked as a professor of guitar at the Conservatori Municipal of Barcelona. At the Liceu she received first prize for guitar. In 1962 she represented Spain at the International Guitar Congress in Tokyo.
