Renate Schneider (politician)

Renate Schneider (born December 6, 1939 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) is a German politician ( FDP ).

Schneider is a trained textile saleswoman and then worked from 1961 to 1990 as a primary school teacher for mathematics and sports.

In 1962 Schneider became a member of the LDPD and from 1990 was a member of the FDP. In the 1980s, Schneider was a city ​​councilor for the LDPD. From February 1990 to 2000 she was FDP district chairwoman and is still on the district executive today (2019); she was also deputy chairwoman of the FDP federal executive committee .

From 1990 to 1994 she sat in the Brandenburg state parliament , where she was a member of the committees for education, youth and sport as well as for science, research and culture. From 1992 she was also the parliamentary manager of the FDP parliamentary group. During this time, together with Hinrich Enderlein , she campaigned for the preservation of the music schools in the state of Brandenburg and for the establishment of the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences . Together with Regine Hildebrandt , she was involved in the implementation of the decision to use the state lottery funds not only for social purposes but also to promote sport. Since 1993, Schneider has been the first female president of the Brandenburg State Sports Association for many years .

From 1997 to 2016 she was a member of the board of trustees of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom .
