Renaud Gauquelin

Renaud Gauquelin (born November 7, 1954 in Paris ) is a French socialist politician. He was mayor of the city of Rillieux-la-Pape from 2005 to 2014 and a member of the French National Assembly from 2016 to 2017 .

Life

Gauquelin trained as an emergency doctor and has practiced in Sathonay-Village since 1981 . Since 1973 he has been a member of the Parti socialiste (PS). From 1983 to 1989 and 1995 to 2001 he was a councilor in Sathonay Camp . In 1997 he was elected to the General Council of the Rhône Department in a by-election for the then canton of Rillieux-la-Pape and re-elected in 1998. Since March 2001 he has been a member of the Rillieux-la-Pape City Council. He became the first deputy of the then mayor Jacky Darne and succeeded him in December 2005. In March 2008 he was re-elected as mayor. On his initiative, the town twinning with the town of Ditzingen (Ludwigsburg district) was concluded in 2010 .

Gauquelin was a member of the Board of Directors of Syndicat mixte des Transports pour le Rhône et l'Agglomération Lyonnaise (Sytral) until March 2001, and from April 2008 to November 2011 also Secretary General of the Ville et Banlieus Association . In March 2004 he was re-elected to the General Council of the Rhône department with 67% against the candidate of the Front National . On March 20, 2014, he was defeated by the conservative candidate Alexandre Vincendent (UMP) in the election for Mayor of Rillieux-la-Pape in the second round, but retained his seat on the city council until 2016.

On March 11, 2016, Gauquelin moved up to the French National Assembly in constituency 7 of the Rhône department as the successor to the resigned MP Hélène Geoffroy (PS), whose deputy he had run in June 2012 . After the new elections in June 2017 , he left again.
