Rendsburg-Neumünster Railway
The Rendsburg-Neumünstersche Eisenbahngesellschaft operated the traffic between Rendsburg and Neumünster by means of a connecting line from Rendsburg via Nortorf to Neumünster to the Hamburg-Altona – Kiel line .
history
On April 4, 1845, the Danish state granted the concession to build and operate the Rendsburg – Neumünster railway line. Passenger transport began on September 18, 1845.
After the German-Danish War , the line and the railway company were taken over by the Altona-Kiel Railway Company on January 1st, 1864 . Today the line is part of the Neumünster – Flensburg railway line and is used a lot on the Hamburg - Denmark route.
The biggest structural changes on the route were necessary due to the construction of the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal (today: the Kiel Canal ). The shipping route opened in 1895 was initially crossed by means of a swing bridge . After widening the canal, the Rendsburg high bridge was inaugurated in 1913 .
