Reneta Indschowa
Reneta Iwanowa Indschowa (also written Reneta Ivanova Indzova , Bulgarian Иванова Инджова ; born July 6, 1953 in Nova Sagora ) is a Bulgarian politician and former Prime Minister .
Studies and professional career
Indschowa studied economics at the Karl Marx Institute for Economics in Sofia , from which she graduated in 1975 . This was followed by her promotion to Philosophiae Doctor ( Ph.D. ) in political economy .
In 1992 she initially worked for the Agency for Economic Development and Economic Programs. She was then a department director at the United Bulgarian Bank, before being a member of the board of directors and executive director of the privatization agency from 1992 to 1993 .
In 1995 she worked as a visiting scholar for Business and Administrative Management at the Eisenhower Foundation in the USA . Between 1999 and 2001 she lived again in the USA. During this time she was also a temporary advisor on Balkan policy to the then Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush .
Political career
MPs
Indschowa began her political career in 1990 after the collapse of the communist government of Todor Zhivkov . At first she was co-author of the founding acts of the anti-communist Union of Democratic Forces ( Sajus na Demokratieitschnite Sili ), which was newly founded in 1990 .
In 1990 she was elected as a member of the National Assembly, where she represented the interests of the SDS until 1992.
Prime Minister and Presidential Candidate
After the resignation of Lyuben Berov , she was appointed acting Prime Minister by President Schelju Schelew on October 17, 1994 . She handed over this office to Schan Widenow after the Socialist Party's election victory on January 25, 1995 .
In November 1995 she ran for the office of mayoress of Sofia, but lost her party friend Stefan Sofijanski in third place . On March 3, 1997, she was co-founder of the United Political Reform Party movement, which she also chaired.
After her return from the USA on March 4, 2001, she became a member of the National Executive Council of the Democratic Alliance Party and a short time later also its chairman.
In the presidential election of November 11, 2001 , she ran for the Democratic Alliance Party with the support of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms . As the fourth best candidate, she achieved just 4.9 percent of the vote and was eliminated after the first round of voting.
