Racing team Gubin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gubin racing team was founded in 1983 by Fred-Michael Gubin. The team's greatest success was winning the German Touring Car Championship (DTM, at the time still the German Production Car Championship) in 19844 in a BMW 635 CSi . The driver of the BMW 635 CSi prepared by Gubin at the time , Volker Strycek , won the championship without a single victory. As a result, Volker Strycek was also the first ever DTM champion. In 1988 the Gubin racing team drove their last DTM race in a BMW M3 in Zolder . The racing team scored a total of 295.50 points in its short racing history.

history

The team was founded by the then racing driver Fred-Michael Gubin, who privately participated in various racing series as early as 1967. Fred-Michael Gubin grew up with his parents' car workshop and therefore had a reference point to motorsport from an early age . At the age of 29 in 1977, he realized his childhood dream by converting his BMW 320 so that it was competitive in terms of racing. This gave rise to the lasting passion for motorsport. In 1983 the Gubin racing team was founded. That year Gubin bought a BMW 635 CSi from Schnitzer Motorsport and then got in touch with Volker Strycek. Today the name Gubin stands for a car dealership in Bochum-Wattenscheid, which is run by Fred-Michael Gubin.

The last race in 1988

The Gubin racing team retired from the DTM in 1988. The car at the time was a BMW M3 , which then crashed out of the series at the beginning of the season and heralded the end of the Gubin racing team. In addition, the works teams from Mercedes-Benz , BMW and Audi took part in the DTM. For a private racing team like Gubin, it was virtually impossible to stay on par with these teams.
