Resourcespace is a digital asset management - software , originally in 2006 for Oxfam by the software developer Neale Hall and Dan Huby the English company Montala Limited was written. ResourceSpace was released under a BSD-like open source license. Montala continues to take care of the project management and also offers commercial hosting, support and further developments for the software. ResourceSpace is based on the PHP scripting language and the GD library . As database can MySQL or MariaDB be used. It is installed on a web server and used with a web browser . Apart from a browser, no additional software is required for use.
The system is designed for multilingualism and supports the Windows , macOS and Linux operating systems on both the server and the client side . It is programmed to be browser-independent and supports, among others, Chrome , Firefox , Internet Explorer (back to version 7), Opera , Safari and Vivaldi .

- Automatic size adjustment - resources can be downloaded in different sizes, so users can choose the quality that suits them and save bandwidth and download time
- Themes - preselected arrangement of resources
- Authorization system that sets the authorization for access to resources at user group level
- Research service - enables specific inquiries to be made to a central resource team
- Resources can be archived and then no longer appear in the main search
- Users can make their own resources available to the system, which are then processed by their own team and made available to other users
- Automatic preview image generation for almost all image and video formats (including JPEG, GIF, PNG, PDF, TTF, Photoshop PSD, AVI, MOC, MEG) using ImageMagick and FFmpeg
- Comprehensive Exif , IPTC and XMP header import and export using the ExifTool
- Automatic GPS tag import and geotargeting search via OpenLayers , OpenStreetMap and Google Maps
- Upload multiple files at the same time using PLupload
- Expandable through plugins
