Retina display

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The US company Apple describes the screens used in its products as retina displays (literally translated as “retinal screen”) , which have such a high point density that the human eye should not be able to see them from a typical viewing distance To recognize pixels. The advertising term is used for the screens of various devices ( iPod , iPhone , iPad , iMac , MacBook , Apple Watch ). Apple has registered the RETINA name as a trademark in the United States and Canada .

Apple does not manufacture its displays itself, but has them produced by various Korean and Japanese suppliers, including LG Display , Samsung and Japan Display . Screens from other manufacturers sometimes achieve higher point densities.

Most of the retina displays used by Apple to date are liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with In-Plane Switching ( IPS ) . The OLED displays of the Apple Watch and the iPhone X , iPhone XS (Max) and iPhone 11 Pro (Max) are an exception .
