The iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus ( own spelling with ? or small caps ) published at the same time as the ninth model of the iPhone series of US company Apple . They were presented on September 9, 2015 as part of a public keynote speech by Phil Schiller and have been available in Germany since September 25, 2015. On September 7, 2016, the devices were replaced by the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. After introducing the iPhone XS and iPhone XR , Apple withdrew the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus from sales after three years.

Characteristics

The appearance of the devices is similar to that of the direct predecessors iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus . The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus deviate from the dimensions of both predecessors by a few tenths of a millimeter, and the weight of the devices is higher than that of the predecessors.

Both devices have a "3D Touch" display with which the touchscreen can register the pressure and thus execute different commands. A linear actuator (“ Taptic Engine ”) enables haptic feedback . The smartphones were delivered with the iOS 9 operating system at the start of sales . Both models come with the Apple developed A9 chip with 64-bit - ARMv8 architecture, iSight and - FaceTime delivered -HD cameras. Another function are the so-called "Live Photos", which show a few seconds before and after the moment of the photo. The camera resolution has been increased from 8 MP to 12 MP. Apple offered the devices at the start of sales in the colors silver , " space gray " , gold and rose gold , each in variants with 16, 64 and 128 GB of storage capacity. Since September 7, 2016, only the memory sizes 32 and 128 GB are available.

iPhone 6s Plus

As with the predecessor iPhone 6 Plus, the technical specifications of the iPhone 6s Plus largely correspond to those of the smaller iPhone 6s. The differences are:

  • It has a larger screen diagonal of 5.5 , with a full HD resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels (corresponds to 401  ppi ).
  • The housing dimensions (H × W × D) are 158.2 mm × 77.9 mm × 7.3 mm.
  • The battery life is longer than the iPhone 6s. According to Apple, it is up to 384 hours in standby mode , up to 24 hours of talk time (in the 3G network), and up to twelve hours of Internet use (3G, LTE or WLAN). The battery has a capacity of 2750 mAh at 3.82 V.
  • The camera of the iPhone 6s Plus has optical image stabilization .
  • The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are the first iPhones with 4K (2160p) video recording capabilities.

Model variants

Apple has two variants of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus manufactured, which differ from one another by a different SoC of the Apple A9 type . This apparently results in a 6–22% shorter battery life in some models with a SoC from Samsung than in those with an A9 from TSMC . This seems to use less energy because TSMC uses a different manufacturing process for chip production than Samsung. Apple states that the battery life tests that produced such results were not conducted under real-world conditions, and that the differences between battery life measured from diagnostic data were only 2-3%. This is within the manufacturing tolerances. The models of the devices are:

  • N71AP (iPhone 6s with Samsung SoC)
  • N71mAP (iPhone 6s with TSMC SoC)
  • N66AP (iPhone 6s Plus with Samsung SoC)
  • N66mAP (iPhone 6s Plus with TSMC SoC)
