Hiller Restaurant (Hanover)

Hiller Restaurant

The Hiller restaurant in Hanover is considered the oldest vegetarian restaurant in Germany . Just like the neighboring vegan cooking school , the gastronomic facility, which has recently “served exclusively vegan food”, is located at Blumenstrasse 3 in Hanover's Mitte district .

History and description

The Hiller restaurant was founded in 1955 by Georg Hiller , who took over the chairmanship of the Vegetarian Union of Germany (VUD) around the same time .

In 1992 the “Vegetarian Restaurant Hiller” was taken over by the restaurateur and hotelier Rainer Feuchter . In his book The slightly different guest book . Twenty amusing stories about celebrities in connection with recipes for a new, simple kitchen are played by the former Environment Minister Jürgen Trittin of Lower Saxony as the main character in a story described by Feuchter. Accordingly, the minister did not simply pay the price for the lunch menu he had taken at Hiller, including a glass of water totaling 9.50 DM, immediately, but rather asked “the bill to the State Chancellery ” - a disproportionately high bureaucratic effort in view of the small amount to be paid Rainer Feuchter described in detail in his “guest book”.

The Hiller, next to which the vegan cooking school has established itself, has been cooking exclusively vegan since 2012.
