List of apple varieties

Retina is a variety of the cultivated apple Malus domestica . The summer apple is one of the so-called "Re -" varieties, which were bred in Dresden-Pillnitz from cultivated apples and Japanese wild apples and are still resistant to apple scab . However, this complete resistance has now been overcome by the apple scab.

description

The medium-sized apple is elongated in shape. The fruits have a small calyx and a wide stem. The smooth yellow-green fruit peel is textured 40 to 80% dark red.

Retina has a sweet and sour taste. The flesh is firm and juicy.

The tree is fast-growing and the branches are medium to strong.

Cultivation

The apple variety is suitable for both commercial and amateur cultivation. Slow growing rootstocks such as M9 , M27 and Supporter 1 are particularly suitable .

The tree generally has a high yield, but has a strong tendency to alternate .

In addition to the cultivated resistance to apple scab, retina is also otherwise comparatively resistant to fungal diseases and pests, in particular fire blight , powdery mildew and red spider . However, the retina is susceptible to frost and very susceptible to attack by aphids .

use

The apples can be picked from the end of August. They are suitable as dessert fruit and can be kept until the beginning of October.
