Shaun Bownes

Shaun Bownes ( Shaun Patrick Bownes ; born October 24, 1970 in Johannesburg ) is a former South African hurdler who specialized in the 110-meter distance .

In 1998 he won the African Athletics Championships in Dakar and won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur . At the 1999 World Athletics Championships in Seville, he reached the quarter-finals, and the semifinals at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

In 2001 he won bronze in the 60 m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships in Lisbon and was eighth at the World Championships in Edmonton .

2002 was his most successful year with victories at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and at the African Championships in Radès . The following year he finished eighth at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham and reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis .

In 2004 he won silver at the African Championships in Brazzaville and was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games in Athens . At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, he finished sixth. In 2007 he won bronze at the Pan-African Games in Algiers, but did not get past the first round at the World Cup in Osaka .
