Retorta is a place and a former municipality ( Freguesia ) in northwestern Portugal .

history

A number of finds document a Roman settlement that existed here , in particular the glass finds in the municipality of Crasto.

As Santa Marinha de Retorta, the place had been the seat of an independent municipality since 1587 at the latest. This belonged to the Maia district until 1836. Since then Retorta has been part of the Vila do Conde district.

With the municipal reform in 2013 , the independent municipality of Retorta was dissolved and merged with Tougues to form the new municipality of Retorta e Tougues .

Retorta was the seat of an independent municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Vila do Conde in the district of Porto . It had an area of ​​3.2 km² and 1167 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

As part of the regional reform on September 29, 2013 , the municipalities of Retorta and Tougues were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Retorta e Tougues . Retorta became the seat of this newly formed community.
