Retox is an American hardcore punk band from San Diego , California that was formed in 2010.
history
The band was formed towards the end of 2010 and consisted of ex- The-Locust members Gabe Serbian (drums) and Justin Pearson (vocals), as well as bassist Thor Dickey and guitarist Michael Crain. A first, self-titled EP followed in 2011, before the band signed a contract with Ipecac Recordings and released their debut album Ugly Animals that same year. The second album YPLL followed in 2013 via Epitaph Records . Brian Evans could then be heard as the new drummer.
style
According to Joachim Hiller from the Ox-Fanzine, the band plays on Ugly Animals Hardcore Punk, which is comparable to the old works of Atari Teenage Riot , but less "digital". In addition, “[r] asante stop & go blasts , plus hysterical, overdriven singing” are characteristic. The roared vocals are reminiscent of The Locust and Swing Kids . According to Hiller, the band also play restless hardcore punk on YPLL , with aggressive, screaming vocals. Christian Kruse from Metal Hammer found the music on the album exhausting. The singing often escalates into screaming and the electric guitars are played quickly. The drums are also " hyperactive ". The music can be classified between the early works of The Dillinger Escape Plan and the noise rock works of Shellac .
