The Rettig Group is a Finnish conglomerate . It includes the subsidiary Nordkalk (limestone quarries), the radiator manufacturer Rettig ICC with the brands Purmo and Vogel & Noot and the ship insurance company Alandia Insurance .
The company goes back to a tobacco factory founded in Hamburg in the 1770s. In 1926, Hans von Rettig became the majority shareholder in Bore Line . In 1970, Rettig took over the heating technology company Purmo Tuote in order to diversify against the declining tobacco market. In the 1980s, under Gilbert von Rettig, the company became Scandinavia's leading radiator manufacturer. In 1984 the Sinebrychoff brewery was taken over, which was later sold to Carlsberg . In 1994 the stake was sold to Partek , and in 1995 the tobacco business was transferred to the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company . By 2010 the majority in Nordkalk, a former subsidiary of Partek, was acquired.
In 2016 the shipping business was sold to Spliethoff .
