The municipality of Retzen-Papenhausen was enlarged on July 1, 1921 to include the area of the Papenhausen manor. It was dissolved on March 1, 1923. The new communities Papenhausen and Retzen were established on their former municipality . Both belonged to the office of Schötmar. Until it was incorporated into Bad Salzuflen on January 1, 1969, Papenhausen and Retzen were independent communities in the Lemgo district .
