Charles Reznikoff
Charles Reznikoff (born August 30, 1894 in Brooklyn , New York , † January 22, 1976 ) was an American poet.
Life
The son of Jewish-Russian immigrants grew up in Brooklyn and began writing at a young age. He found friends in his neighborhood with whom he discussed the works of young authors such as Arthur William Symons . His own early poems are shaped by imagism , his prose shows the influence of James Joyce .
He quickly gave up his history studies in favor of law school, even though he had a keen interest in history throughout his life. He became a lawyer, but gave up this profession again after a few weeks.
Reznikoff printed and published his works himself, but did not care about their distribution.
