The Rhön-Rennsteig-Wanderweg is an 89 km long long-distance hiking trail from Hesse to Thuringia. Starting at the Wasserkuppe ( 950  m ), it crosses the former inner-German border after passing the Heidelstein and the Red and Black Moors . In Thuringia you can hike over the Geba (751 m) and the Dolmar (739 m), which are also very scenic . Shortly afterwards, the path leaves the Rhön - the "land of open spaces" - and enters the vast forest areas of the Thuringian Forest. But even here there are brilliant views, e.g. B. on the 866 meter high Ruppberg and the rock on the 897 meter high burned stone . At the end you reach the Rennsteig and the famous winter sports resort Oberhof .

The hiking trail was created in 1998 on the initiative of the Mayor of Christ , Uwe Heimrich.
