The RNZ is connected to the cities of Mannheim , Heidelberg and Weinheim in local public transport via the Upper Rhine Railway . The RNZ is located directly at the Viernheim motorway junction of the A 6 and A 659 . 3,800 free parking spaces are available for private transport. 1,540,694 people live in the total catchment area of the RNZ, the Rhine-Neckar area , of which approx. 320,000 in a core area with less than 15 minutes' travel time.

The Rhein-Neckar-Zentrum was opened in 1972 with 60 shops on an area of 50,000 m². A large number of other shopping opportunities were attracted to the surrounding area, especially on Heidelberger Strasse. Since 1998, the RNZ has been managed by ECE Projektmanagement GmbH , which modernized it for the first time in the course of the takeover. In 2002 the sales area was expanded to 60,000 m². From 2013 to 2014, the shopping center was restructured, in which the operator invested around 10 million euros. In the RNZ there are 110 specialist shops as well as the Kinopolis , a multiplex cinema . A total of 1,200 people are employed there, and an average of 24,131 visitors come to the center every day.
