Rheinischer Ring

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rheinische Ring (RhR) is an association of like-minded fraternities at technical universities that has existed since 1920 .

history

The working group was sealed in the house of Arminia Hannover in 1920 .

The RhR emerged from the working group founded on July 4, 1920 in Hanover , in which fraternities had come together that had previously been in a friendly relationship in the Rüdesheim Association of German Fraternities (RVdB).

Cartel formation was not permitted in the RVdB. After the RVdB was absorbed by the Deutsche Burschenschaft (DB) in 1919 , the fraternities at technical universities were now confronted with the old DB cartels. In order to better represent one's own interests, it was considered necessary either to join these existing cartels or to establish one's own cartel. First, on December 18, 1919, a working group was established between Germania Braunschweig and Arminia Karlsruhe. In the following year, at the invitation of Arminia Hanover, the establishment of an “extended working group” supplemented by further fraternities was negotiated. The sources differ about the exact founding date and the founding members; What is certain is that it already existed on the Burschentag 1920. Academic Germany names the six fraternities Germania Braunschweig, Gothia Charlottenburg, Germania Darmstadt, Arminia Hannover, Arminia Karlsruhe and Hilaritas Stuttgart as founding members. With other fraternities, such as the Teutonia Danzig, it is disputed whether they co-founded the working group and then left immediately or whether they did not become a member at all. The Stauffia Munich, which was initially involved in the founding negotiations, eventually oriented itself towards the White Circle .

On the boys' day at Pentecost 1923, "Rheinischer Ring" was set as the name of the working group. A compulsory cartel, i.e. the obligation to vote together at the Boys' Days, was not introduced. The influence on the association policy of the DB remained small until the factual dissolution of RhR and DB in 1936.

Raised in the early 1950s, the RhR was a member in the 1960s of an “information round” of liberal fraternities, which was seen as the antithesis to the Burschenschaftliche Gemeinschaft (BG). The RhR stood against a people-related definition of fatherland and against a merger of the DB with the DBÖ of the Austrian fraternities.

Between December 2012 and Whitsun 2013, the RhR fraternities left the DB. On October 3, 2016, they joined the Allgemeine Deutsche Burschenschaft as founding members.

tasks and goals

The purpose of the foundation was to be able to better bring the common interests of the member associations in the DB committees to bear in close cooperation.

The Rheinischer Ring sees its tasks today in cultivating friendship among its member fraternities and in carrying out fraternity work that an individual fraternity cannot do on its own.
