Fraternity house

The so-called Haus Kaiser on Darmstadt's Mathildenhöhe serves as the connection house . The two-storey Art Nouveau villa was built in 1903 by the architect Heinrich Metzendorf for the merchant Georg Kaiser. Architectural features are the finely crafted sandstone areas of the facade and the limestone relief "The Shepherd" by Ludwig Habich on the southern gable wall.

In 1925 the trade association of the Darmstädter Burschenschaft Germania e. Gen.mbH took over the Kaiser and used it from then on as a liaison house. In 1939 it was forcibly given to the National Socialist Motorist Corps (NSKK) for rent. During a bombing raid on the night of September 11, 1944 , it was hit by an aerial bomb and burned down completely except for a few basement rooms and a room on the ground floor. In 1961 the trade association was re-entered in the land register as the owner of the house and in 1962 the reconstruction began . Since 1964 Haus Kaiser, which is now a listed building, has once again served as the ADB's liaison house! Germania.

history

The old Darmstädter Burschenschaft Germania was founded on November 2nd, 1869 as "Darmstädter Burschenschaft Germania" at the then polytechnic school in Darmstadt. The place of foundation was the Erbacher Hof, today's Grohe brewery . The first scale length on the colors of the ADB! Germania struck August Föppl on May 10, 1871. Since October 1891, the Germania fraternity had a permanent home in rented rooms in the “Zum Gutenberg” inn, which they bought after the First World War . The “Zum Gutenberg” building was sold in 1925 in order to acquire the Kaiser house at Alexandraweg 6 with the income and other donations from the old men . From the winter semester 1935/36 the ADB! Germania will be continued as Kameradschaft Germania due to the forced dissolution of student associations . This was ordered by resolution on February 24, 1936, the dissolution. The inventory was then removed from the Kaiser house and it was rented out. In 1937 the old rulers of Germania merged with the Kameradschaft Friedrich Friesen , which was founded as a replacement for the dissolved Kameradschaft Germania . This then bought the Kaiser house in 1943 from the trade association of the Darmstädter Burschenschaft Germania e. Gen.mbH, which was forced into liquidation. On September 11, 1944, the house was badly damaged in a heavy bomb attack during the Darmstadt Fire Night .

After the war, in spite of the difficult circumstances, the Federal Brethren got together again in 1948. Active operations continued in 1949 in rented rooms at the Fey brewery. In 1952 the house of the Fey brewery at Alexanderstraße 23 was bought for Germania. In 1955 the connection broke. The point of contention was the reintroduction of a mandatory censorship for members of the Association of the German Burschenschaft (DB). In several votes in 1954/55, the old gentlemen decided to remain in the association, whereas Aktivitas had to leave the association because of the rejection of compulsory fencing. A part of the old men supported the project of the active and founded the association Germania e. V., which remained in the controversial possession of the house at Alexanderstraße 23. In the following years judicial and extrajudicial disputes took place between the two parties. Their results were as follows:

  1. The names are henceforth "Darmstädter Burschenschaft in the DB" and the " Darmstädter Burschenschaft an der TH ".
  2. Both connections recognize that they emerged from the same root of tradition and are allowed to wear the same color and circle.
  3. The “Darmstädter Burschenschaft at the TH” provided financial compensation and remained in the possession of Alexanderstraße 23.
  4. The "Darmstädter Burschenschaft an der TH" waived claims to the Kaiser house, which was still destroyed at that time.

The remaining old rulers of the "Darmstädter Burschenschaft in the DB" could, however, immediately form a new activity again with the help of support boys of the Darmstadt fraternity Frisia and from then on lived in the rooms of the fraternity Frisia. In 1957, the old men of the “Darmstadt fraternity in the DB” decided to rebuild the ruins of the former Kaiser house at 6 Alexandraweg. This house could already be moved into in 1963. In 1967 it was decided to rename “Darmstädter Burschenschaft in the DB” to Alte Darmstädter Burschenschaft Germania.
