history

Founding years

Founded on January 14, 1873 by six students from the Polytechnic in Stuttgart as a society at the Polytechnic , the society decided in 1877 to give itself the name Siesta . After this was not approved by the teachers' convention of the Polytechnic, it was decided to use the name Academic Association Hilaritas . Shortly afterwards the circle and the motto were introduced.

From 1898 the current colors red-silver-black are worn. The original colors black-red-black , which were supposed to be based on the colors of the Württemberg kingdom , had to be given up again, as these were already used by the Vitruvia Academic Association . Since silver percussion had been worn before, it was decided to include silver in the colors. According to the rules of heraldry , the precious metal color was placed between the others. In the same year the association became a fraternity . In 1900 the Hilaritas fraternity joined the Rüdesheim Association of German fraternities (RvdB).

House purchase

The Altherrenkonvent decided to build a fraternity house . For this purpose, the old gentlemen's association of the Hilaritas fraternity was founded and entered in the register of associations . The land on which the Hilarenhaus was built according to plans by the Stuttgart builder Heinrich Jassoy was bought for 13,827 marks . The building plans for the old Stuttgart City Hall also originate from the same master builder. Remnants of this old town hall can still be seen on the side and back walls of the current town hall - the similarity to the Hilarenhaus is unmistakable. In 1910 the pergola was erected at the front of the house. This was demolished and rebuilt in 2010.

After almost all active members of the fraternity were drafted at the outbreak of war in 1914, the active business was stopped.

Between the world wars

In the First World War 151 members were in the field, 22 of them died. Active operations were resumed in December 1918. In 1919 the RVdB merged with the German Burschenschaft to form the German Burschenschaft. In 1920 the friendship cartel Rheinischer Ring was co-founded by the fraternity of Hilaritas.

In 1933, the old manors constituted the house association Hilaritas as the owner of the house. After the dissolution of the German Burschenschaft on October 18, 1935 and its incorporation into the NSDStB , the names Jungkameradschaft Hilaritas and Altkameradschaft Hilaritas were used in the imposed student union. After hard disputes with the NSDStB, the young comradeship was dissolved in 1936 and the old comradeship renamed the Bund old Hilaries . Most of the old gentlemen from the old rulers of the connections Arminia , Gaudeamus and Hilaritas merged to form the old rulers Lüderitz of the existing comradeship Lüderitz . The Hilarenhaus was made available to the comradeship. The League of Old Hilarians dissolved in 1939, the house association Hilaritas continued to exist as the owner of the house. After the outbreak of World War II , many members were drafted into the Wehrmacht .

After the Second World War

33 members died in World War II. The house association Hilaritas rented the house to the Evangelical Relief Organization (today Diakonisches Werk ) and thus escaped the confiscation of the house.

In 1947 seven young students founded the Academic Association Columbus (AVC), which in 1949 together with the house association Hilaritas founded the Academic Association Hilaritas . The house association continued to exist as the old gentlemen's association (AHV) of the federal government.

After the German Burschenschaft was re-established in 1950, Hilaritas automatically became a member, so in 1951 the name was changed to the Stuttgart Burschenschaft Hilaritas . In 1954 the determination of censorship was reintroduced within the German fraternity , so 35 members left the Hilaritas, but many of them return in the following years.

In 1968 the Stuttgart student body gave itself a student parliament . The Hilaritas fraternity took part in the demonstration against the university policy of the state government.

Although the German Burschenschaft had lifted the compulsory fencing of the member associations in 1972, Hilaritas decided to keep a determination censorship.

The fraternity of Hilaritas resigned from the German fraternity with immediate effect due to the resolution of its general meeting on December 1, 2012.

She is a founding member of the General German Burschenschaft corporation association and has been a member since it was founded on October 3, 2016.

Chairing fraternity

The Hilaritas fraternity was and is very active in its associations. This is documented by the numerous takeover of the chairmanship.

Color

The boy band consists of the colors red-silver-black with silver percussion , the fuxen band is red-black with silver percussion. Spefüxe wear a red ribbon with a broad silver percussion. The hat is made of red felt.

Coat of arms and motto

The coat of arms consists of four fields shown on a shield. In the first field is the circle of the fraternity of Hilaritas, which is decorated with an "Hv!" This stands for the Latin Hilaritas vivat! - in German Hilaritas live (high)! The crossed blades of two scaled mallets shown in the second field represent the loyalty of the friars to one another. The oak shown in the third field stands for the firm roots in the fatherland. In the fourth field an eagle is shown, it stands for freedom. Together, the fields form the motto of the Hilaritas fraternity: loyal-fest-free!

Fraternity house

House of the fraternity of Hilaritas Stuttgart

The Hilarenhaus is located on the southern slope of the half-height location with an excellent view over the Stuttgart city center with the Königsbau , the Old and New Castle and other historical buildings. It can be reached in a few minutes from the city center via one of the famous stairs - called Stäffele in Stuttgart . The season of sinners ends right in front of the Hilarenhaus. It was designed by Heinrich Jassoy in 1903 . Due to the visual similarity to the Stuttgart City Hall , which was built in 1901 , the Hilarenhaus was popularly called the Small City Hall in earlier times . It was also known under the name Drachenschlössle , due to some sandstone figures in the shape of a dragon, which can be found on both the Hilarenhaus and the town hall.

Fraternity orientation

The Hilaritas fraternity sees itself as a liberal fraternity in the middle of the fraternity movement.

She is a founding member of the Burschenschaftliche Zukunft (IBZ) initiative and also co-initiated the previous Stuttgart Initiative (SI).

After years of work, the new Association of the General German Burschenschaft emerged in 2016 from the Burschenschaftliche Zukunft initiative . Here the Hilaritas fraternity is one of the 27 founding fraternities.

Cartel and friendship relationships

The Hilaritas fraternity is one of the founding fraternities of the Rheinischer Ring cartel and has been a member there since it was founded in 1920.

In October 2012, a friendship was established with the old Strasbourg fraternity Germania zu Tübingen .

In January 2013, a friendship was established with the Arminia-Rhenania fraternity in Munich on the weekend of the 140th Hilarius pub.

Out of this friendship, the four -league of the Karlsruhe fraternity Teutonia , the Munich fraternity Arminia-Rhenania , the Braunschweig fraternity Germania and the fraternity Hilaritas was founded in Eisenach at the fraternity monument on October 18, 2013 . The four-league decided to dissolve at the four-league convention in January 2018, as the goals of bridging the time without an association and constructively accompanying the establishment of the ADB were considered to have been achieved.
