Adolf Daimler (born September 8, 1871 in Karlsruhe , † March 24, 1913 in Tübingen ) was the son of Gottlieb Daimler and director and co-owner of the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft .

biography

Early years

Adolf Daimler was born on September 8, 1871, in what was then the capital of Baden, Karlsruhe, as the second son of Gottlieb Daimler, at that time a member of the board of the Karlsruher Maschinenbaugesellschaft.

He spent his childhood in Cologne when his father was the technical director of the Deutz gas engine factory there.

In 1882 his father moved to Cannstatt to set up his experimental workshop there. There Adolf Daimler visited the nearby Royal Realistic Institute in Stuttgart, where he successfully passed his school leaving examination in 1891. After a short work at the machine factory in Esslingen, on the advice of his father as a practical preparation for his studies, he studied mechanical engineering at the TH Stuttgart from 1895 to 1898 . During this time he joined the local fraternity of Hilaritas , of which he remained a member throughout his life.

Working life at Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft

In 1899 he joined the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG), which was founded in 1890 by his father Gottlieb Daimler as technical director. From 1900 he was finally chief engineer and authorized signatory. In 1904 he became a deputy member of the board. In 1907 he continued his rapid ascent to one of the highest management positions, the director of the operations department. At the same time he was appointed to the company's board of directors. There he was very successful in managing the company's extensive operations department. Through his work, he made a decisive contribution to the development of DMG.

Early death

After a long illness, he died at the age of 41 on March 24, 1913 in the university town of Tübingen . His funeral took place on March 26, 1913 in the Cannstatter Uff church yard , where his father had been laid to rest a few years earlier. The importance of Adolf Daimler is also underlined by the people who gave funeral orations.
