history

The Waldhorfhof was built by a family "Kentenich from Kempis", an engraving in the keystone of the cellar entrance in 1638. Later it passed into the ownership of the family "von Waldorf", who were already mentioned as wine growers in the 16th century and who own the farm Names. At the time it was one of the largest wineries in Rheinbreitbach. Half-timbered farm buildings were added in the 18th century, and the courtyard was given its current appearance in the 19th century. At the end of the 1990s, the building was in an advanced state of decay. After two years of vacancy, from April to the end of 2001 - the final completion was sealed with an inauguration ceremony in July 2002 - the half-timbered courtyard was extensively restored in accordance with listed buildings. The half-timbered frame was raised by 50 cm.

building

The Waldorfhof is a 28 m long half-timbered courtyard ( Streckhof ), which is built in a rare type of construction both in stand and frame construction. The building has a quarry stone vaulted cellar with recessed niches. An inclined gate passage as part of a natural stone wall is considered unusual . The most recent renovation resulted in 60 new compartments using clay bricks from Lower Saxony and the roof made of so-called “ shaking pans”, which was reinforced with hand-made “rye straw dolls ”.
