The Rheintaler is a medal (not a means of payment) that can be purchased and that has a marketing strategy behind it. The publisher is the Rheintal e. V. in Bad Honnef . The first two Rheintaler were published in December 2004 and had the Drachenburg Castle and the Rheinhotel Dreesen as motifs .

background

Under the term “Rheintaler”, a large number of companies based on the Rhine from the upscale gastronomy, hotel, culture and tourism sectors have come together to form a network. It is a marketing and cultural network that aims to make the Rhine regions and especially the sights on the Rhine better known. All service providers connected in the network accept the Rheintaler medals and give the owners of the taler added value or free additional services on presentation of the taler. The Rheintaler itself does not have to be handed in. It does not matter which thaler motif is used, as each partner accepts any motif. In addition, it is fully transferable and can be used indefinitely. There are now over 170 acceptance and issuing points between Duisburg and Speyer .

medal

The Rheintaler medals are made of German silver , they have a diameter of 35 mm and a weight of 20 grams. They are available with over 50 different motifs on the front, all of which have a connection to the Rhine region, such as castles, monuments, palaces, historical events , technical monuments and also famous Rhinelander, such as Konrad Adenauer , Ludwig van Beethoven or Adolph Kolping . The reverse shows the association's logo and the text: "1320 km from the source to the mouth". In addition, six stars for the countries that the Rhine flows through.

The network stretches around 400 kilometers on the Rhine between Duisburg and Speyer .
