Rhipsalis pentaptera is a species of plant in the genus Rhipsalis from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Rhipsalis pentaptera grows richly branching epiphytic and shrubby with more or less upright shoots and reaches heights of 30 to 40 centimeters. The individual or in groups of two to three acrotonically branching , bright green shoots are stiff. They are three to seven-winged or three to seven ribbed . The shoots have a diameter of 6 to 15 millimeters and are 7 to 12 centimeters long. The areoles form regular rows and are covered with a few bristles, which can also be completely absent.

The white, 7 to 8 millimeters long flowers appear one after the other from the upper parts of the shoot. They are solitary or stand together in groups of two to four flowers. The fruits are white to slightly pink.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Rhipsalis pentaptera is common around the Brazilian city ​​of Rio de Janeiro . However, it is believed to be extinct in nature.

It was first described in 1836 by Albert Gottfried Dietrich .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Critically Endangered (CR) ", d. H. listed as critically endangered.
