The Rhodope lily ( Lilium rhodopeum ) is a species of the genus of the lilies ( Lilium ) in the Candidum section .
description
The Rhodope lily is a perennial, upright herbaceous plant that reaches a height of 80 to 100 centimeters. The egg-shaped to rounded-egg-shaped, pale yellow onion is 3.5 to 4.5 inches long and 2.8 to 4 inches wide, the individual scales are elongated-lanceolate, 2.2 to 4.5 inches long and 5 to 10 Millimeters wide.
The bare stem that appears from spring is green, occasionally spotted red at the base. It is smooth and high from 80 to 100 cm. The linear, overlapping leaves are pointed. The lower leaves are 9 to 14 centimeters long, the middle 8 to 12.5 centimeters and the upper 6 to 9.5 centimeters, so that the plant has a conical shape.
Flowering time is June, the inflorescence is a panicle with three to five strongly scented, bright yellow, funnel-shaped flowers. The flower stalks are 7 to 12 inches long. The 4.5 to 5.5 centimeters long, green or yellow stamens are smooth and thickened at the base. The carpel is between 4 and 7 inches long. The seed pods ripen in August.
distribution
The Rhodope lily is native to the mountain meadows of the central and eastern Rhodope Mountains in the border region between Bulgaria and Greece . The locations are mostly found in pine or beech forests on average at 1300 m above sea level (between 80 and 2100 m).
Danger
The Rhodope Lily has been classified as "Rare" in Bulgaria since 1984 and is under protection. It is also in Appendix 1 of the Bern Convention . One of the few locations on the Byala River is currently endangered by plans to build a hydropower plant .
